About Mountain Bikes Ireland & Buying Guide
Technical advice, Dublin workshop support & Irish road regulations
New mountain bikes in Ireland from €499: hardtails for trails and forest parks from Giant, Liv, Kona and Romet, up to the full-suspension Giant Trance X 29 and the Giant Yukon fat bike. Order online with delivery, or talk to us at our Capel Street showroom in Dublin 1.
Which mountain bike should you buy?
- Starter hardtails (€499–€999): Romet Rambler, Giant Talon and Liv Tempt. Front suspension, wide tyres and disc brakes for gravel paths, forest trails and rough city streets.
- Trail-ready hardtails (€1,000–€1,400): the higher Talon 29 and Tempt models add better forks and drivetrains for regular trail riding.
- Cross-country race (from €1,699): Giant XTC SLR 29, a lighter aluminium frame for faster riding.
- Full suspension (€3,399): Giant Trance X 29 1 for technical trails at places like Ticknock and Ballinastoe.
- Fat bike: Giant Yukon 1, with extra-wide tyres for sand, mud and loose ground.
27.5" or 29" wheels?
29" wheels roll over roots and rocks more easily and suit taller riders. 27.5" wheels feel quicker to turn and suit smaller riders. Check the size chart on each product, or use our bike size guide.

Questions
What is a good beginner mountain bike?
A hardtail with front suspension and hydraulic disc brakes is the usual starting point. In our range that means the Giant Talon or Liv Tempt, from €799, or the Romet Rambler from €499.
Is a hardtail or full-suspension mountain bike better?
A hardtail is lighter, cheaper and needs less maintenance, so it suits most trail centres and forest paths. Full suspension is more comfortable and controlled on steep, rocky or technical trails, but costs more.
Can I buy a mountain bike on the Bike to Work scheme?
Yes. Your employer buys the bike and you pay it back from gross salary. The limit for a standard bicycle is €1,250 including safety equipment. Request a quote with the exact model and size.
