About Gravel Bikes Ireland & Buying Guide
Technical advice, Dublin workshop support & Irish road regulations
Gravel bikes in Ireland from €999: drop-bar bikes for back roads, forest tracks and long days out, including the Giant Revolt, Liv Devote, Kona Rove, Sutra and Libre, and Romet Finale.
Choosing a gravel bike
- Aluminium, from €999: Romet Finale, Kona Rove AL and Giant Revolt 2. Tough, simple bikes that also make fast commuters.
- Adventure and touring: Kona Sutra (steel) has mounts for racks and bags for multi-day trips.
- Carbon: Giant Revolt Advanced 1, 2 and 3, lighter and more comfortable over long distances.
- Women's fit: Liv Devote 0, 1 and 2.
Gravel or road bike?
A gravel bike takes wider tyres (around 40 mm and up), has more relaxed geometry and lower gears. That makes it a better all-rounder for Irish roads and greenways. A road bike is lighter and faster on smooth tarmac.
Questions
What is a gravel bike?
A drop-handlebar bike built for mixed surfaces: tarmac, gravel tracks, greenways and forest roads. It has wider tyres, lower gears and more stable handling than a road bike.
Is a gravel bike good for commuting?
Yes. Most gravel bikes have mounts for mudguards and racks, and the wider tyres handle potholes and kerbs well.
Can I buy a gravel bike on the Bike to Work scheme?
Yes, up to the €1,250 limit for a standard bicycle, including safety equipment. You can pay the difference on bikes above the limit if your employer agrees.
More bikes: Mountain bikes · Hybrid & city bikes · Gravel bikes · Road bikes · Kids bikes · Giant bikes · Electric bikes
Gear: Helmets · Locks · Lights · Pumps & tools · Tyres & tubes · Bags & racks
