Hybrid bike or city bike?
- Hybrid bikes (Giant Roam, Liv Rove, Romet Orkan and Wagant, Tabou Kinetic): flat handlebars, lighter frames and a wide gear range. A good all-rounder for commuting, canal paths and weekend spins.
- City bikes (Romet Gazela, Vintage and Jubilat, Giant Attend, Liv Flourish, Excelsior): an upright, Dutch-style position, step-through frames on many models, mudguards and racks. Comfortable for short urban trips in everyday clothes.
- Women's and step-through frames: Liv is Giant's women's brand, and the "D" Romet models have a low step-through frame.
Commuting by bike in Dublin
For daily commuting, look for mudguards, a rear rack and puncture-resistant tyres. Add front and rear lights and a solid U-lock or folding lock. Prefer a little help on hills and headwinds? Compare our commuter and step-through e-bikes.
Hybrid bikes on the Bike to Work scheme
Every bike here costs less than the €1,250 Bike to Work limit for standard bicycles, so most riders can add a helmet, lock and lights. Ask for a Bike to Work quote.
Questions
What is a hybrid bike?
A hybrid mixes a road bike's speed with a mountain bike's comfort: flat handlebars, medium-width tyres and a wide gear range. It suits commuting, fitness riding and light paths.
Is a hybrid or a road bike better for commuting?
For most city commutes a hybrid is easier: upright position, room for mudguards and a rack, and tougher tyres. A road bike is faster over longer distances on good roads.
Do you have women's bikes?
Yes. Liv is Giant's women's bike brand, and many city bikes here have step-through frames that suit any rider.
Can I get a hybrid bike through Bike to Work?
Yes. All the hybrid and city bikes here are under the €1,250 limit for standard bicycles. Request a quote with the exact model and size.
