Bike helmets in Ireland: around 40 adult and children's cycling helmets from Melon, Giant, Liv, Lazer, Cairn, Limar and Bobbin, including MIPS models, from about €23.
How to choose a cycling helmet
- Size: measure around the head just above the eyebrows. Each product lists its size range in cm (for example M/L, 52–58 cm).
- Urban helmets (Melon, Cairn, Lazer CityZen, Bobbin): fewer vents, a smoother shell, often with a rear light. Good for commuting.
- MIPS (Giant and Liv Relay MIPS): an inner layer designed to reduce rotational forces in some angled impacts.
- Kids helmets: more than 10 children's models from Melon, Giant, Lazer, Cairn and Limar.
Do you have to wear a bike helmet in Ireland?
Helmets are not legally required for cyclists in Ireland, but the RSA recommends wearing one. E-scooter riders are different: they must wear a helmet. See our electric scooter helmets.
Questions
How do I know what size bike helmet to buy?
Measure your head circumference just above the eyebrows and ears, then match it to the helmet's cm range. It should sit level and not move when you shake your head with the strap closed.
Is it the law to wear a bicycle helmet in Ireland?
No, helmets are not compulsory for cyclists in Ireland, though they are recommended. E-scooter riders must wear a helmet.
What is a MIPS helmet?
MIPS is a low-friction layer inside the helmet that lets it move slightly on impact, designed to reduce rotational forces on the brain in angled impacts.
