Lifty Labs Workshop Intake Policy: In-Person Drop-Off Only

Capel Street Workshop Drop-Off Protocols

Lifty Labs operates repair and diagnostic services across Ireland strictly via in-person customer drop-off at 157 Capel Street, Dublin 1 (D01 F5P1).

  • Intake Hours: Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, 13:00 to 16:30. (Sunday and Monday: Closed).
  • No Courier or Postal Intake: We strictly do not operate a courier collection, postal intake, or return shipping service for repair bikes under the workshop’s stated intake policy. All bikes must be delivered and collected in person by the customer.
  • Fitting Turnaround: Confirm the estimated completion time for the actual job and required parts before booking.
  • Initial Contact: We strongly advise emailing hello@lifty.co before visiting to verify motor system compatibility and parts stock.

Supported Drive Systems: Bosch, Shimano Steps & Bafang

E-bike systems can require proprietary tools and model-specific procedures. Tell Lifty the exact motor, display and battery system and ask which assessment and repair work is supported before travelling.

  • Bosch systems: Confirm support for the precise generation, fault and requested work. Mechanical servicing and proprietary software access are different capabilities.
  • Shimano Steps: Supply the drive-unit and display identification, then confirm diagnostic support, compatibility and required parts.
  • Bafang systems: Identify the exact motor, display and wiring arrangement; a shared brand does not make all controllers and displays interchangeable.

Common E-Bike Symptoms & Diagnostic Paths

1. Motor Not Assisting or Cutting Out Under Load

Assistance cut-outs can involve sensors, wiring, battery protection, controls or the drive unit. An inspection is needed to establish the cause; no workshop diagnostic percentage is established here. Useful starting observations include the exact code, when assistance stops and whether the display remains powered.

Workshop service limits: Our treatment adds weather protection but is not independently certified to an IP rating. It does not make a vehicle waterproof and may affect manufacturer warranty cover. Confirm compatibility, service scope and the current price before booking.

  • Misaligned rear-wheel speed sensor spoke magnets.
  • Brake lever microswitch cut-off sensors stuck in the engaged position.
  • Corroded bottom bracket torque sensor cables caused by road salt and rainwater ingress.

2. Battery Charging Faults & Strict Safety Policy

If your battery charger light stays green and refuses to charge, or blinks red, the battery management system (BMS) may have locked due to cell voltage imbalance or thermal protection.

Strict Battery Safety Protocol

Ask which external electrical checks and approved replacement options are available for your exact battery system. Do not open a pack or bypass its protection. A damaged, wet, swollen or unusually hot battery should not be charged.

3. Spongy Hydraulic Brakes & Rotor Squeal

Brake wear depends on the complete vehicle and load, route, conditions, components and riding. A lever reaching the grip, loss of braking or a sudden change in feel requires inspection. Squeal alone does not establish contamination, and a spongy lever does not prove a single cause. Use only the brake manufacturer’s specified parts, fluid and procedures.

Stage 2 workshop weather protection for Dublin Commuters (€199)

If you are considering additional workshop weather protection, ask for the current quote, model compatibility, exact treatment and warranty implications. A treatment does not establish an independently tested IP rating or make the bike waterproof.

  • Ask which areas of your exact model any proposed weather treatment covers and whether the manufacturer permits the work.
  • Confirm that drains, vents, ports and service access remain appropriate for the vehicle design.
  • Obtain the treatment scope, price and warranty implications before approving work.
  • Realistic Weather Standard: We offer Stage 2 workshop weather protection. We never claim IPX7, IPX8, or 100% waterproof immersion. The treatment is not a guarantee against water damage.
