What size bike for my child?
Kids bikes are sized by wheel diameter. Use this as a starting point and check the inside-leg measurement on each product page: your child should be able to put both feet on the ground from the saddle.
| Wheel size | Typical age | Typical height |
|---|---|---|
| Balance bike / 12" | 2–4 | 85–105 cm |
| 14"–16" | 4–6 | 100–120 cm |
| 18"–20" | 6–9 | 115–135 cm |
| 24" | 8–11 | 130–145 cm |
| 26" | 11+ | 140 cm+ |
Ages and heights are approximate. Children grow at different rates, so the height and inside leg matter more than age.
Kids mountain bikes, girls and boys bikes
For off-road riding, the Giant Talon 20, Giant ARX, Liv Tempt 20/24 and Romet Rambler have mountain-bike gearing and wide tyres; the Giant and Liv STP 20 are made for dirt jumps and pump tracks. Tabou's Miss and Rocket ranges come in colours aimed at girls and boys, but every bike suits any child who fits it.
Don't forget a helmet

Questions
What size bike does a 5-year-old need?
Most 5-year-olds ride a 14" or 16" bike, depending on height. A child of 100–120 cm usually fits a 16" bike. Check that both feet reach the ground from the saddle.
What size bike for a 7 or 8-year-old?
Usually a 20" bike for children of about 115–135 cm, moving to a 24" wheel at around 130 cm and up.
Do you sell balance bikes?
Yes, the Giant Pre balance bike. Balance bikes help toddlers learn to steer and balance before moving to a pedal bike.
Are kids bikes available on the Bike to Work scheme?
No. The Bike to Work scheme is for employees buying a bike for their own commute, so children's bikes do not qualify.
