Frequently Asked Questions

Clear, transparent answers to help you navigate the Irish Bike to Work Scheme, micromobility regulations, workshop repairs, and orders at Lifty Electric.

01

Irish Bike to Work Scheme

How much can I save through the Irish Bike to Work Scheme?

Under Irish Revenue guidelines, higher-rate tax payers save up to 52% on eligible electric bikes and safety accessories through salary sacrifice, while standard-rate payers save up to 31%. The statutory cap allows up to €1,500 for standard pedal-assist electric bikes and up to €3,000 for qualifying cargo electric bikes.

Which products are eligible for the Bike to Work Scheme?

All road-legal pedal-assist e-bikes (250W continuous motor, assist cut-off at 25 km/h) priced at €1,000 or above from premium manufacturers like CUBE qualify for scheme quotations. Accessories such as certified helmets, high-security locks, lights, and panniers are also eligible.

Exclusions: Electric scooters, electric unicycles (EUCs), and budget e-bikes priced under €1,000 are not eligible for the Irish scheme under Revenue legislation.

How do I get an employer quotation from Lifty?

You can generate an instant employer quote via our Bike to Work Scheme Hub or visit our Capel Street showroom. As an authorized partner of Travel Hub and direct supplier to both private employers and public bodies (including HSE and Dublin City Council), we issue official Revenue-compliant invoices within hours.

Irish E-Scooter & Micromobility Laws

What are the legal technical limits for e-scooters in Ireland?

Under the Road Traffic and Roads Act: road-legal electric scooters must have a maximum continuous rated motor power of 400W, a maximum design speed limit of 20 km/h, a maximum unladen weight of 25 kg, front and rear lights, functioning brakes, and reflectors. Riders must be at least 16 years of age.

Can I ride an electric scooter on footpaths in Ireland?

No. Riding electric scooters on footpaths or in pedestrian zones is strictly prohibited under Irish law and carries a fixed penalty fine. E-scooters are permitted in dedicated cycle lanes, bus lanes where shared with cyclists, and on public roads with speed limits of 50 km/h or less.

Do I need a driving licence, tax, or insurance?

No. For road-compliant electric scooters (under 400W and 20 km/h) and standard EPAC e-bikes (under 250W and 25 km/h), no driving licence, motor tax, or mandatory third-party insurance is currently required in Ireland.
