"48V" refers to the nominal voltage of a lithium-ion battery pack consisting of 13 cells connected in series (13S architecture). Each cell has a nominal voltage of 3.7V (13 × 3.7V = 48.1V). However, a fully charged lithium-ion cell reaches 4.2V. Therefore, to charge the pack to 100%, the charger must supply 13 × 4.2V = 54.6V DC. The same logic applies to 36V packs (10S = 42.0V), 52V packs (14S = 58.8V), 60V packs (16S = 67.2V), and 72V packs (20S = 84.0V).
Only if your vehicle's Battery Management System (BMS) and charge port wiring are rated for it. While high-capacity batteries (e.g. 30Ah+) can safely absorb 4A to 5A charge currents, smaller commuter batteries (e.g. 7.8Ah to 13Ah) may overheat. Furthermore, standard thin-gauge charge wiring and 5A internal fuses can melt or blow if subjected to high-current fast chargers. Always verify with our workshop specialists before upgrading charger current.
Plugging in a reverse-polarity charger creates an instant dead short between the battery pack and the charger circuitry. This typically causes a loud pop, sparks, vaporized connector pins, a blown charging port fuse, or destroyed charge MOSFETs on the BMS. Never assume two GX16 or DC barrel plugs share the same pinout without verifying with a digital multimeter first.
No. Bosch Smart System (BES3) components use a proprietary oval keyed charging socket with an encrypted digital CAN-bus handshake. Older Bosch eBike System 2 (BES2) batteries use a round charging plug. The two systems are physically and electronically incompatible.
Our workshop at 157 Capel Street, Dublin 1 (D01 F5P1) provides multi-point voltage checks, charge port pinout verification, socket replacements, and authentic CE-certified replacement chargers.
Important information for riders in the Republic of Ireland.
Upcoming Irish e-scooter safety measures are expected during August 2026. Announced changes include a proposed minimum rider age of 18, mandatory helmet use and high-visibility clothing. Registration, licensing or insurance requirements may also be introduced.
These measures remain proposed until formally enacted. Current requirements remain in force. Government requirements and commencement dates may change; always check current official Irish guidance before riding.
This high-performance scooter exceeds current Irish requirements for public-road use. It must not be used on public roads, cycle lanes, bus lanes, footpaths or other public places in the Republic of Ireland. It is intended only for private property with the landowner’s permission. You are responsible for understanding and following the laws that apply to this vehicle.
Orders delivered to Great Britain may be subject to UK import VAT, customs duty and courier clearance charges. UK import VAT is generally 20%. Depending on origin, classification and customs treatment, additional duty may apply. As a general guide, allow approximately 20%–30% in possible import charges, although the final amount may be lower or higher.
These charges are assessed by UK customs or the carrier and are the buyer’s responsibility. Lifty Electric does not control or guarantee the final amount. Northern Ireland uses different rules and is excluded when a Northern Ireland address is known.
Eligible employees may purchase a new e-bike and approved cycling equipment through their employer and save up to 52%, depending on their tax circumstances. The standard scheme supports eligible purchases up to €1,500; qualifying cargo bikes may be covered up to €3,000.
Employer approval and scheme rules apply. Any amount above the applicable limit must be paid directly to Lifty Electric before collection or delivery.
